The Science Safety Summit sponsored by OSTA and the Oklahoma State Department of Education is rapidly approaching.
The University of Central Oklahoma will be the site of Summit, Friday, August 1st, 2008.
Sponsored by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and OSTA, the summit is designed to focus on a the topic of safety in science classrooms and will bring sharp focus to needs, practices, and responsibilities of teachers and schools.
The primary presenters for the summit are Jim Collins and Vanessa Westbrook of the Charles Dana Center at the University of Texas.
Jim’s extensive research in safety practices and procedures in Texas resulted in a recent strengthening on the Texas state laws regulating school safety and safety prectice in Texas. His work includes the Texas Safety Standards for Kindergarten–Grade 12 and An Analysis of Laboratory Safety in Texas.
Vanessa, who recently completed a terms as Region XIII NSTA Director, is a senior program coordinator for science in the Partnership for High Achievement and professional development areas at the Charles A. Dana Center.
Both Jim and Vanessa were presenters at last fall’s OSTA Convention.

Time: 8 am until 4:30 pm (8-8:30 Registration and continental breakfast)
Cost: $50 per person, limit 3 people per school district. Purchase orders to OSTA are accepted. Space is limited to a maximum of 60 participants. All participants receive a copy of Jim Collins’ safe science book, continental breakfast, lunch, and a 1 year complimentary membership in OSTA.
