This year the National Academy of Engineering hosted two contests focused on how engineers contribute to the needs of society. The EngineerGirl Essay contest received over 800 entries from students around the world, and the winning essays have been posted to the EngineerGirl website. The E4U Video Contest mirrored the essay contest theme and also received a wonderful response. Check out the information below and vote for your favorite video for the People’s Choice Award.

The E4U judges committee has selected 15 videos to compete for the People’s Choice Award. These videos are published on the E4U website and the NAE YouTube channel under the “Engineering for You People’s Choice” playlist. Click here to watch and vote for your favorite: www.nae.edu/e4u.

The winner of this award will be determined by the number of “likes” a video receives from July 1, 2014 at 12:00 PM through September 1, 2014 at 12:00 PM EDT. The video that receives the most “likes” during this time period will be awarded a $5,000 prize. To ensure that all finalists start the competition with an equal opportunity to win the prize, we will discount any likes the video has received before the start of the competition on July 1, 2014 at 12:00 PM EDT.

Please share this announcement with members of your community, and encourage them to watch these videos and vote for their favorites.

We received over 600 entries to the contest and have been delighted by the quality and variety of the videos that show how engineering contributions serve human welfare and the needs of society. Thank you to those who helped spread the word about the Engineering for You (E4U) Video Contest!

The winning videos (including People’s Choice Award, Best Overall, and Category winners) will be announced by the end of September 2014 and will be featured on the NAE website and the NAE E4U contest website as well as shown at the NAE 50th Anniversary celebration during the 2014 NAE Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
