The website had over 6000 hits in the last 5 months. State Science Director -Jana provided an update on the work of the ACE Taskforce. BAP -None Old Business Symposium A discussion of the symposium occurred. Everyone agreed that the Northeastern State University venue was perfect. Sessions seemed well attended. There seemed to be a large number of preservice teachers in attendance. Vendors had a nice display. The awards luncheon was great. Thanks to all for your hard work on this important event. New Business Mission OSTA Board members reviewed the mission of OSTA from our constitution. The focus of our mission statement is on training. Suggestions were made expand the focus to include advocacy and networking. Please continue to think about this topic and make suggestions in our Google group forum. Membership Benefits A short discussion of membership benefits generated the following ideas: -student chapters -appealing to younger members through different venue. -increasing dues then allowing free entrance to all meetings Short Term/Long Term Goals Interest was expressed in holding two field meetings (one in the east half of the state and one in the west half of the state) to occur in the spring (April). Science Safety Summits to be held in each of our four regions during the summer months. Committees The following are standing committees established by our constitution. Each committee consists of a chairperson (named below) and up to three members from the OSTA membership. Committee chairpersons please have your committees formed before our next meeting. Meeting Dates Meeting dates for OSTA board are as follows: 2/7/09, 4/4/09, 6/6/09, 8/1/09, 10/3/09 Unless otherwise noted these meetings will take place at the Curriculum Center of the Norman Public Schools, 131 S. Flood Street. In an effort to make the meetings more accessible to all (especially those driving from a great distance) I would like to suggest that we also utilize a webcast program. The one that I use is called SKYPE ( HYPERLINK "http://www.skype.com" www.skype.com). It is a free download for webcasts and you do not need to use a camera. If you plan on utilizing this technology you will need to download the program and set up an account. Then add my information to your contacts. SKYPE will send an email to me to allow you into my contacts. On the day of the meeting you will just need to log in and make the call to me. To facilitate discussions about topics I have also set up a Google group for OSTA. I sent an email to each of you requesting that you enroll in that group. To date seven of us have signed up. This group will help us discuss matters before our meeting and hopefully allow the meetings to run smoother and more quickly. If you cannot find the email that I sent to enable you to access the group let me know and I will send another one.
