An Invitation to Oklahoma Science Teachers

The MIT Women’s Initiative is a non-profit student group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that sends pairs of women graduate and undergraduate students to ~10 school districts across the United States each January.  These women present to middle and high school women in order to inform them about what engineering is and encourage them to maintain an interest in math and science to prepare themselves for the possibility of a career in engineering.  We are currently seeking applications for schools who would like presenters to visit their area.  Because we are funded entirely by private sponsors, the presentations are completely free for participating districts.  For more information, please visit mit.edu/wi.  We very much would like to visit the Oklahoma school districts that you believe would be best served by our program. We hope you will forward this invitation to apply to your constituents.

Regarding applications for this opportunity, please note that one district coordinator should fill out the application.  All applications must specify 6 schools the presenters will attend as well as a contact for each school.  If your district does not have 6 schools, please partner with surrounding districts to include 6 schools.  This criteria ensures that the presenters have enough presentations to keep them busy during their trip.  An application can be found at http://web.mit.edu/wi/schools/.  The application deadline for January, 2011 is October 15, 2010. If you have any difficulty making the deadline, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate things.

If you have any questions, feel free to email  wi-schools@mit.edu.

Thanks!
