About the Kit
This free kit is intended for students in grades 4–8 for use in the classroom with the guidance of a teacher. The kit contains a teacher’s guide with a fully-developed lesson plan, student activity sheets, and enough materials for multiple classes of 32 students working in groups of four.
The lesson is based on a scenario in which a cell phone has fallen into a lake. The teacher helps students design a device, using a chemical reaction, which can make a sinking cell phone float. During the activity, students explore different reactions that produce carbon dioxide gas and brainstorm and write about how this reaction might be incorporated into a cell phone rescue device.
The kits will ship in early to mid-September 2013. About 10-12 weeks after you receive the kit, we will send you a short survey to see what you and your students thought about the different features of the kit. This information will be very useful as we plan the development of new activity kits.
ACS Respects Your Privacy
This activity kit, including shipping, is completely free.  ACS will not try to sell you anything in exchange for requesting a kit, nor will we distribute your contact information to anyone else.
