An update on the status of the new Oklahoma Academic Standards for Science.

After last night’s vote to pass HJR 1099 with the Rules Committee rejection of OAS intact, the standards now go the Senate.

The Senate Rules Committee will hear HJR1099 this morning at their committee meeting at 9:00 am. OSDE State Science Director Tiffany Neill will be available to speak to the committee if they desire to hear from her.

If the Senate Rules Committee approves the rejection it will go to the Full Senate. Reports are that the legislature will adjourn on Friday so there is a short timeline to put this through the Senate.  The names of the Senate Rules Committee members is below with a link to their email.

If the Senate approves the rejection of the science standards, they will go to the Governor to consider as all bills do.   As reported previously, there is an indication that the SDE will ask the Governor to promulgate OASS into Rules not withstanding the actions of the Legislature. So you also need to go to Governor’s web site http://www.ok.gov/governor# and click on send message to encourage her to support OAS.
