Sponsored by the University of Central Oklahoma and OSTA, the Leading by Example for Engineering Design Conference is scheduled for Howell Hall this Saturday, February 8th beginning with registration and breakfast at 8:30 AM. The conference itself is a spin-off from the LEED Math/Science Partnership grant awarded to Putnam City Schools and the University of Central Oklahoma by the State Department of Education as a part of their administration of USDOE’s Math/Science Partnership initiative.
LEED is a staff development program focused on developing educational leadership and understanding of the engineering design process in key leaders among the science and math staff of partnership district. But the implications extend far beyond this small group of teachers. Engineering Design is integral to the Next Generation Science Standards that these partnering district have adopted and that is a major influence on the new OAS Science Standards. Engineering Design finds its way across the science disciplines and is now and essential component that all science and mathematics teachers will utilize. This conference is for those who choose to be at the front of this new curriculum design.
